(Senior) Data Scientist (d/f/m)
Become the Sherlock Holmes of the web and help our clients to detect the fraudsters among their customers. In this never ending race, we are beating the bad guys with technology and data analytics!
- Dive into real fraud discovery data projects, enhance our Machine Learning risk models, and take care of sensitive enterprise customer projects.
- Discuss your findings with our customers, developers, and management alike, in English and German.
- Contribute re-usable functionality to our Python/PySpark toolkit on Databricks, in collaboration with data engineers.
- Improve our risk scoring pipeline (e.g. feature engineering, sampling strategies, model types, evaluation metrics, explainability, anomaly detection), also bringing in your own ideas.
- Support our product development of FRIDA and DEVICE IDENT by data analysis.
- Think out of the box during our regular innovation days, and leverage the latest Data Science trends, e.g. from relevant conferences, for fraud prevention.
Fundamentals
- University degree or comparable qualification in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or similar.
- Solid understanding of ML concepts, processes and algorithms.
- 3+ years of professional experience working in data-driven teams in industry or research.
- Good programming skills, ideally in Python/PySpark, to efficiently and reliably work with large data sets, and to contribute to shared codebases.
- Structured and thorough methodology, and high self-organization.
- Clear and effective communication, written and verbal.
- Strong presentation skills in front of diverse audiences.
- Very good English skills for our international team.
- Near-native German skills required for customer interaction.
- Based in Hamburg, or willing to travel to the office occasionally in a remote setup.
- Some sense of humor and an open mindset :)
Bonus
- Proven routine in analytical projects with regular customer contacts.
- Working experience in software development with agile methodologies.
- Deep knowledge in Machine Learning (e.g. xgboost, logistic regression) as well as in applying generative AI (e.g. LLM, RAG).
- PhD in a quantitative discipline.
- Deep knowledge in some of the following technologies: Databricks, Python, (Py)Spark, Scala, H2O, scikit-learn, Bash, git, SQL, HTML/JS
- Advanced data visualization skills (e.g. Plotly, Dash, D3, ggplot)
- Joy in data story telling, also on stage at public events.
- Proven experience in working with sensitive and confidential data.
