Description

We are looking for a talented and ambitious Lead Machine Learning Engineer (f/md) who’s excited to join us in developing real-world medical AI for dermatology - to support doctors and patients in the management of inflammatory skin conditions. This role combines hands-on contribution with technical leadership: You will be responsible for technical excellence, regulatory readiness, team development, and ensuring that AI meaningfully drives product and business outcomes. You’ll join and scale a small, fast-moving AI team working closely with top management, product management, data annotators and medical experts.

Your mission

Define and own the AI roadmap aligned with product vision, regulatory requirements, and company goals.
Lead and set standards for data management, model development, evaluation and validation procedures.
Make architectural decisions across computer vision, multimodal AI, and future LLM-based systems.
Design, train, and evaluate computer vision models for medical image analysis, blending vision and structured data when relevant (PyTorch).
Ensure high-quality data preprocessing, augmentation, and quality control in collaboration with data annotators and medical advisors (DVC, FiftyOne).
Own AI-related aspects of medical device compliance, in collaboration with regulatory management and clinical partners.
Build, mentor, and scale the AI team.

Your profile

Advanced degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, AI/ML, Biomedical Engineering, Statistics, or related field.
5+ years of experience in applied ML, including medical or regulated environments, leading AI projects from data to deployment.
Strong understanding of deep learning fundamentals, metrics, and evaluation methods.
Proficiency in Python, PyTorch, containerization, cloud computing (AWS/GCP), and MLOps practices.
Experience managing or mentoring teams.
Strategic thinker with the ability to balance speed, quality, and compliance.
Excellent communication skills with technical and non-technical audiences.
You speak German or English fluently.
