Role Overview:
As a Scientific Project Manager, you will be responsible for securing, planning and managing our scientific projects, with a strong focus on Horizon Europe grants. The position also involves organising and leading training activities within EU-funded projects. You will work closely with our project management team, researchers, EU-OPENSCREEN partner sites and other stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, within budget and in compliance with funding requirements.
Initial work will focus on several Horizon Europe projects:
- Provision of services for cancer research to foster patient benefits across Europe (canSERV project), in which we work on new therapeutic solutions.
- Leading the planning and strategic development of training activities and capacity-building initiatives within two EU-funded projects, IMPULSE (https://www.eu-openscreen.eu/impulse-overview.html) and EUREMAP (https://euremap.eu/)
All projects involve large consortia of European Life Science Research Infrastructures.
Key Responsibilities:
- A major part of the work is to support grant proposal preparation: Understanding call topic requirements, setting up consortia and collaborating with stakeholders and EU-OPENSCREEN partners to formulate/write/edit and deliver potential proposals.
- Administration and managementof granted projects and third-party funding in close cooperation with the project management team and the Director General.
- Management of scientific research projects: Monitoring scientific projects, ensuring alignment with project objectives and timelines.
- Coordination of EU-OPENSCREEN's core scientific services, in close collaboration with experienced EU-OPENSCREEN project managers.
- Develop and implement training strategies that support the development of technical skills, data management practices, and infrastructure utilisation.
- Assess and report on the effectiveness of training activities, gather feedback, and drive continuous improvement.
- Reporting and documentation: Prepare and submit regular progress reports, deliverables and financial statements in accordance with Horizon Europe requirements.
- Quality assurance: Ensure high-quality outcomes by implementing best practices in project management and scientific research. This includes organising, updating and maintaining archives and databases.
- Budget management: Manage project budgets, ensuring optimal allocation of resources and compliance with financial guidelines.
- Development of outreach material and participation in dissemination activities.
- Master’s or PhD in chemistry, biology or a related life sciences field (experience in high-throughput screening, medicinal chemistry or chemoproteomics considered a plus).
- Understanding the needs and operations of research infrastructures and the research community is a plus
- Excellent project management skills, with experience in using project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Asana, EMDESK).
- Excellent presentation skills: to be able to prepare presentations and speak in online and on-site meetings and conferences with confidence
- Proven experience managing EU-funded projects, particularly under Horizon Europe.
- Strong organisation, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proactive and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Fluent English (German is a plus)
- Eligibility to work in Germany (EU citizenship or valid work permit).
